It was a wonderful , although very long day…filled with just a hint of anxiety, tons of excitement, and an impressivly well behaved group of faerie costumed little girls (with a few costumed adults) waiting for their television debut. And every one of them was simply spectacular – couldn’t have done better if they were professional models or actresses – and absolutely could not have been more adorable!

I was so proud of each and every one of them and so greatful to the parents who had made what must have been quite the supreme effort to get each of them camera ready and to the tv studio bright and early and all in such cheery moods!

But arriving at the day was not without chaos and a fair amount of emotional trauma. Getting prepared for a television show takes quite a bit of preparation and I had the unfortunate task of having to cut down our number of little models  prior to the day of the show and disappointing both the parents and the children who’s costume’s had been cut from the show was a difficult task that I hope I never have to do again.

All of my little faerie models – especially those who did not get to be seen on camera, will be getting an invitation this week to a Faerie Tea in my garden as a special thank you. In my next blog I hope I will have some photos of that tea to share with you!

Until then…..

Remember what all faeries know: That true beauty shines from the inside out! And Fairy Dust to All!

If your little girl is dreaming of a fabulous Fairy Party for her next birthday and you are either short on time or not the creative type, I may have your perfect solution! Imagine opening your front door to find a big box containing everything you need – beautifully illustrated Fairy invitations; A wonderful selection of decorations; individually packaged fairy tutus, wings, crowns and wands for each of the guests; placemats, fairy favor pails; three favors per guest;  adorable bottles of fairy dust (each with a tiny silver wand); a party activity kit and and even cupcake wrappers!  All you would need to do would be to add guests, the place for the party, some refreshments – and of course your supervision!

And you get credit for being just the best, most wonderful, most fantastic amazing mom in the world! (Yippee!)

Well it is not a dream or a figment of your imagination because it does indeed exist. I’ve put together two themed packages  – a Woodland Faerie Party or a Flower Faerie Party.  The Woodland Themed party is very leafy and Mossy (even the place mats are faux moss – very cool!) And the Flower Fairy Themed Party is Pink and Lavender with either pink and white polka dot place mats or grass place mats with little pink flowers growing out of them. Absolutely adorable!

The Tutus are very soft tulle and come in a variety of colors and no two are ever embellished exactly alike. The Parties in a Box are set in incriments of six and are for sale through my Etsy Shop.

Giving Your Child the Gift of Imagination!

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

It’s a wise parent who provides their child with a  selection of odds and ends they can use as props and lets them decide what those props will become and how they will be used for play. What a concept! A child using their innate creativity and imagination to have fun instead of sitting in front of a TV or video screen!

As a grandparent I am from a generation that remembers well not having TVs or video games to play with, and while I was one of those parents who welcomed Sesame Street and Mr. Roger’s into my own children’s neighborhood, I now find myself truly dismayed at the techno-culture many of the children in my grand children’s generation are so submerged in. In fact, I’m concerned that there is a serious danger there may be many kids so deeply submerged that their own imaginations never get the opportunity to germinate at all.

So I ask you…what does this mean?  What would  – or will – the world be like if this next generation grows up never learning to rely on their own creativity…their own sense of wonder and real interaction with other children – not icons or avatars or bleeps on a screen that they can control without understanding the human consequences of their actions?

I watch my little granddaughters and so many of my customers as they  tap into their imaginations and believe with all their hearts that they are capable of flying when they put their fairy wings on and I realize that magic is still alive and still growing whenever it is encouraged. Whether it is a dad showing his son how to make paper airplanes…. searching for dragons……reading a bedtime story………or granting wishes with a fairy wand. To all of you parents and grandparents out there who take the time, and care enough to plant the seeds and encourage a child’s imagination to flourish…….

Fairy Dust To You!!!!

Love from the Fairy Nana
